White Oak Herringbone

This Victorian home had herringbone floors that the previous owner had removed and replaced with carpet. The new owners were extending and renovating and wanted to renew the front of house areas to their original state.

We installed a 280mm x 70mm x 22mm nature grade white oak with a traditional two strip border seen in many Victorian homes. The client added a walnut feature strip to add to the border detailing.

Standard procedure to border a rounded step is to either square it off and fill in pieces or router a curve to mimic the round of the step but the client opted for a hexagon shape with mitred joints. With the feature strip added it makes for a beautiful feature at the stairs.
